Why Does it Happen?

Global warming is the major reason that causes sea level to rise. As humanity pollutes more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere it promotes global warming resulting in the increase of volume to the world’s ocean; this is attributed mainly by three factors which are the melting of glaciers and polar ice caps, thermal expansions, and ice loss from Antarctica and Greenland.

It has been scientifically forecasted that Glaciers beneath the earth’s surfaces are melting 100 times faster compared to before which is due to global warming. This causes major sea level rises, impacts the ecosystem, and influences ocean circulations putting island countries and low elevated countries at risk of flooding or even completely vanishing under the sea.

Additionally, excessive use of groundwater pumping due to global warming will continue to subside the ground of the land and accelerate the rate of subsidence. All these factors lead to the sea level rise.
